IPFW Archaeological Survey Homepage/Online Reports

IPFW Archaeological Survey Homepage

During the course of writing yesterday's post on The Great Sage Plain, I clicked through to the Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne Archaeological Survey (IPFW-AS) website, which readers will hopefully find worth checking out, and here are two items I want to mention in particular.

The first is a link to what are modestly described as Online Reports, but are in fact voluminous papers describing in great detail archaeological investigations conducted by IPFW-AS in 2006 and 2007, in which research was focussed on exploring past cultures and people who have inhabited the region since the late Pleistocene through to the 18th Century. The papers are free to access, as described here at the site...

As part of an ongoing effort to make primary archaeological information and data available to both professionals and the interested public, the IPFW-Archaeological Survey is committed to the timely publication and distribution of the results of our work. The publications below are screen resolution PDF versions of our reports edited for public dissemination.

I'll list the reports here, (PDFs) and to access them, just click through to the IPFW-AS Reports Online...

Field School Announcement for Summer I 2009, Anthropology P405, 18 May – 26 June, 2009

Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne will offer an archaeological field school during the first summer session of 2009. The course carries six credit hours and meets Monday through Friday from 8:00 am–6:00 pm.

The curriculum will focus on practical field experience, including archaeological survey, excavation techniques, and preparation of field documents. Informal lectures on various aspects of Indiana prehistory will provide students with a basic background in the culture history of the region and the proper use of a variety of research methods and field techniques.

The field school is part of the Archaeological Survey’s research and education efforts. The course will be taught by Dr. Robert G. McCullough and researchers from the IPFW-Archaeological Survey. The field school is part of a multi-year research project focusing on the Late Prehistoric period in Indiana. Excavations will be conducted at sites within Allen County, Indiana.

Class size is limited to 12, so anyone wanting to sign up for this would probably be well advised to apply sooner rather than later - further details can be found on the same page.
